Welcome to the Family
We know that visiting a new dentist can feel a little nerve-wracking — even for patients who aren't anxious about dental work. There's the paperwork, the unfamiliar faces, and that lingering question: what exactly is going to happen in there?
At Monroe Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we work hard to make your first visit feel like the beginning of a long, comfortable relationship — not a one-time checkup. Here's exactly what to expect.
New Patient Tip: We're currently accepting new patients and can often accommodate same-day or next-day appointments. Call us at (770) 266-7188 and we'll get you scheduled right away.
What to Bring
To make check-in quick and easy, please bring the following to your first appointment:
- A valid photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.)
- Your dental insurance card, if applicable
- A list of any current medications or supplements
- Any prior dental records or X-rays (if you have them)
- A completed new patient form — you can fill this out early by calling us ahead of time
No insurance? No problem. Ask us about our Monroe Wellness Plan — an in-house membership that makes dental care affordable without relying on traditional insurance.
Your Appointment, Step by Step
Here's how a typical new patient visit unfolds at our practice:
-
1Arrival & Check-In Our front desk team will greet you, verify your information, and get you settled into a comfortable chair. We'll take a few minutes to review your health history and any concerns you'd like to discuss.
-
2Digital X-Rays We use low-radiation digital X-rays that give us a detailed picture of your teeth, roots, and jaw — in seconds. These images help us catch anything that isn't visible to the naked eye.
-
3Comprehensive Exam Dr. Pete or Dr. Alex will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, bite, and oral tissues — checking for cavities, gum disease, signs of grinding, and more.
-
4Professional Cleaning Our hygienist will remove plaque and tartar buildup, polish your teeth, and give you a personalized home-care routine to keep your smile healthy between visits.
-
5Your Treatment Plan If anything needs attention, Dr. Pete or Dr. Alex will sit down with you, explain your options clearly, and create a customized plan that fits your goals and your budget. No pressure — just honest advice.
How Long Will It Take?
A complete new patient visit typically takes about 60–90 minutes. This includes check-in, X-rays, the comprehensive exam, and a full cleaning. If additional treatment is needed, we'll schedule those at separate appointments so we have plenty of time to do the job right.
If You're Feeling Anxious
Dental anxiety is more common than you might think — and we take it seriously. Our team is trained to work at your pace, answer every question you have, and ensure you're comfortable at every step. We also offer sedation dentistry options for patients who want to feel more relaxed during their visit.
Just let us know when you call to book, and we'll make sure your experience is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
Patients consistently tell us: "I was nervous going in and ended up feeling totally at ease. The team is genuinely kind and they take the time to explain everything." — A real patient review from Google.
What About Kids?
We love seeing the whole family! We welcome children and work hard to make their visits fun, educational, and completely non-threatening. We recommend a child's first dental visit by age one or within six months of their first tooth appearing. Starting early helps kids build positive associations with dental care that last a lifetime.
